MTF Counsel’s 11th

By: Atty. Euney Marie J. Mata-Perez on June 6,2024

We are doubly blessed, as we celebrated our firm’s 11th anniversary yesterday, June 4, 2024.  Eleven is double one—as what Fr. Pat Villasanta of the Salesian Order said, double one means double blessings, as the number 1 represents God.

My partner, Gary Francisco, and I set up the firm in 2013.  We wanted to be on our own trailblazers.  We bought with us years of experience in deals and transactions, corporate law, tax law, litigation, and labor law.  We also brought in with us loyal clients, who supported us all the way, including one which allowed us to hold office at their penthouse for free during our first year.

A few years later, Mark Tamayo joined us, and brought in his rich experience in customs and trade practice.  We became a force to contend with.

We crafted our mission and vision:  We want to be the choice counsel in our fields of practice.

We were clear with our values, the foremost of which is integrity and excellence.  Being engaged in tax and customs practice, we made the conscious and deliberate choice to act with integrity.  Our clients are aware of that, and they appreciate us for that.

Over the course of 11 years, we handled interesting transactions and deals – mergers, acquisitions, project financing, judicial or extrajudicial estate settlements. We continue to do so.

We continue to handle all aspects of tax and customs practice, from administrative assessments and protests to judicial claims and appeals.

We became active in associations, which led to my being elected as the first Filipino and woman President of the Asia-Oceania Tax Consultants Association, an association of 18 member countries in the Asia-Pacific Region. Today, I head the Tax Committee of the Management Association of the Philippines, while Mark heads the Customs and Trade Committee of the European Chamber of Commerce.

We take pride in training our people well, which is part of our mission.

We are also on our 4th year in contributing to this column.  We offered to write a monthly article, but The Manila Times asked for a weekly one.  We took the challenge and plunge, and have been enriched, and hope we have enriched others with our articles.

Although running a law firm, with its people, complexities, deadlines, and clients, is sometimes challenging and difficult, we simply enjoy the practice of law.

We will continue to serve our clients to the best of our abilities and according to our values.

Indeed, there are so many things to thank for, and we are truly grateful.  All for the glory of God. AMDG!
